2C injection molding machine

Through the acquisition of a two-component injection molding machine, the portfolio of the expertise field of plastics technology at the Application Center for Wood Fiber Research HOFZET® has been expanded by a further facility. Within the framework of diverse research activities concerning the process and material development of fiber-reinforced and filled thermoplastics, we are now able to directly combine two different materials with differing properties in one process step.

With the aid of the 2C injection molding machine, we are able to intensify our research into the material compatibility of second materials. Amongst other things, the equipment therefore contains a peel test specimen tool in accordance with VDI 2019, with variable wall thicknesses of between 0.5 - 6 mm in variothermal design. Following the variation of process parameters such as temperature and pressure, we are able to create, prior to the start of production, ideal conditions for the realization of the greatest-possible adhesion of two different materials. In this way, complex multifunctional materials can be produced which are, for example, simultaneously comprised of hard and soft components. Through different combinations of materials, components can be simultaneously stiff and flexible in order to fulfil conflicting requirements.

Furthermore, through the available automation with a 6-axis jointed-arm robot and a maximum closing force of 320 t, the equipment offers the possibility of producing lightweight components from organic sheets, i.e. fiber composites which are used in automotive manufacture, as well as providing support for innovative series developments, for example in a tailgate for the automotive industry.
