Technical center on a semi-industrial scale
The technical center at the Fraunhofer WKI enables the production of wood and composite materials from other lignocellulosic raw materials such as particleboard and fiberboard, oriented strand boards (OSB), plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), wood-polymer materials (WPC), 3D-moldings and material composites.
The facilities include various systems for the crushing and processing of wood and other renewable raw materials as well as for the processing of secondary raw materials to form chips, strands, veneers and fibrous material for the production of wood- and natural fiber-reinforced composites (NFC). For the loading of the particles and fibers with adhesive, various mixers are available which enable adhesive addition tailored to the raw material. Two modern SPS-controlled hot presses simulate the continuous industrial pressing process. With a press area of 1200 x 1600 mm², boards can be produced on a semi-industrial scale. With two molding press tools, thermoset and thermoplastic molded parts can be produced.
Through extrusion technology, WPC/NFC formulations can be developed and processed into differing profile geometries.
