Fraunhofer WKI accredited as inspection body for adhesives for load-bearing timber components

Braunschweig / 24.10.2017

The Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut WKI in Braunschweig has been officially recognized since 11.10.2017 as an inspection body for adhesives for load-bearing timber components in accordance with the PÜZ Index (TMC Index), Edition 2017 - Part II a, Seq. No. 3.3/4.

Through the recognition in accordance with the LBauO (regional building regulations) and the extended accreditation of the inspection body “Bondings and Adhesives” in 2016, the Fraunhofer WKI is now able to inspect all relevant adhesive systems for load-bearing timber construction. These include the European-standardized adhesive systems, such as aminoplasts and phenoplasts, as well as one-component polyurethane and emulsion-polymerized isocyanate. Furthermore, the Fraunhofer WKI can now also characterize the adhesive systems which fall within the scope of application of the regional building regulations, such as two-component polyurethanes or two-component epoxides.

In addition to the pure adhesives, numerous glued, load-bearing timber connections can now also be inspected by the Fraunhofer WKI.

During the site inspection on 21st June 2017 at the Fraunhofer WKI by the German Centre of Competence for Construction (DIBt) and the recognizing authority of the State of Lower Saxony (Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Equality), all the recognition requirements were fulfilled.

In addition to inspection and certification, the Fraunhofer WKI also provides differentiated training opportunities through the WKI | Akademie®. The training course “Bonding in wooden construction” is recognized by the Studiengemeinschaft Holzleimbau e. V. (glulam study group) and can also be officially regarded as proof of training by companies.
