Material Analysis and Indoor Chemistry

Profile

Our ”Material Analysis and Indoor Chemistry” department focuses on the comprehensive measurement and assessment of indoor air pollution and consumer-oriented products. The spectrum of examined materials ranges from classic wood-based materials through plastics and construction products to products from the automotive, electronics, aviation and food industries.

The development of new analysis and sampling techniques as well as the construction of emission test chambers and cells are further important fields of our activity.

We investigate questions concerning indoor air hygiene and room climate with regard to the environment, health and consumer protection. A further field is the Cultural Heritage Research. Together with the other Fraunhofer institutes we work on solutions for the improvement of air quality through the use of materials equipped with (photo) catalysis.

Cooperations

We co-operate with various research facilities both here and abroad within the framework of co-operation agreements and scientist exchange programs.

Contact is particularly close to the

  • Institute of Ecological and Sustainable Chemistry at the TU Braunschweig
  • Ostfalia – University of Applied Sciences, Wolfenbüttel
  • Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia

Information platform “Indoor Air Quality” (IAQIP)

The investigation of interactions between health and indoor living spaces has gained significantly in importance through current political and scientific developments. On our information platform “IAQIP” (Indoor Air Quality Information Platform), we provide substantiated information on the subject of “indoor air quality” in a compact, comprehensible form for planners and operators of buildings, for decision-makers and for consumers.

The platform is a joint project with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
