Fraunhofer WKI Braunschweig

The headquarters of the Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut WKI, are located in Braunschweig. Four of the six Fraunhofer WKI departments are located here:

 

At the Braunschweig location, around 130 permanent employees work for the Fraunhofer WKI, of which around 40 percent are scientists, engineers and doctoral students. More than 6,700 square meters of offices, laboratories, technical center and open-air space are available for the execution of research contracts.

Since 1990, the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST has also been located here. 

 

History

The location has a long tradition that dates back to 1946, when Wilhelm Klauditz established the “Testing and Consultation Center for Technical Wood Utilization of the Association for Technical Issues related to Wood e.V.” here.
