From 27th to 31st May 2019, Hanover will again be dominated by the LIGNA. The event organizers for the world’s leading trade fair for machinery, plant and tools for the woodworking and timber-processing industry are once again expecting around 1,500 exhibitors. In 2017, a total of 93,000 visitors attended the trade fair, around 42,000 of whom were from overseas.

The focus topics of the LIGNA 2019 are: Integrated Woodworking - Customized Solutions, Smart Surface Technologies und Access to Resources and Technology.

The Fraunhofer WKI will be presenting innovative products and procedures relating to the utilization of wood and other renewable raw resources in diverse materials. These include:

  • Wood-based (multi-material) lightweight construction solutions using the example of a seat and a seat shell for the automotive industry
  • Recycling products on the basis of balsa wood from disused rotor blades using the example of floorboards made from wood-polymer composites (WPC), ultra-lightweight wood-fiber insulation mats, and a new type of wood foam         
  • Cooperation project with the Braunschweig University of Art: Particularly lightweight materials on the basis of renewable and recycled raw materials using the example of a pedelec delivery bicycle, a pedal-boat with pedelec drive, and the rib cross-section from a racy 22m sailing catamaran
