Proof of suitability for the production of bonded load-bearing timber components according to DIN 1052-10

In a notification dated 30 September 2021, the Fraunhofer WKI has been recognized by the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Bauen und Klimaschutz (Lower Saxony ministry for the environment, energy, construction and climate protection) as an testing body for the verification of the “suitability for the performance of adhesive bonding work for the manufacture of load-bearing timber components and glued laminated timber” and can issue certificates regarding this suitability, also known as “Leimgenehmigungen” (glue authorizations). This is a milestone for the Fraunhofer WKI’s Testing, Monitoring and Certification Center (TMC), but also for the entire timber construction industry in Germany.

In this webinar we explain the necessity as well as the execution of the verification for the production of bonded load-bearing timber components according to DIN 1052-10.

According to DIN 1052-10:2012-05 “Design of timber structures - Part 10: Additional provisions”, the performance of adhesive bonding work for the manufacture or repair of load-bearing timber components requires special expertise on the part of the persons entrusted with this task. Furthermore, the companies must be equipped with suitable specialist facilities. Companies wishing to perform adhesive bonding work for the manufacture or repair of load-bearing timber components must therefore provide proof to a recognized inspection body that they have the necessary specialized personnel, suitable operational facilities and adequate in-house production control. With immediate effect, the Fraunhofer WKI can offer such company inspections.

In addition to the inspection of the technical equipment, the technical suitability of the personnel performing and managing the work must be verified. The qualification of these persons has to be proven by the successful participation in a training course at a recognized inspection body, lasting several days, on the bonding and repair of load-bearing timber components. The Fraunhofer WKI therefore offers the core course “Bonding in wooden construction” via the WKI | AKADEMIE® for this purpose. This will take place again in spring 2022 during the weeks from 21 to 25 February and from 7 to 11 March.
