Fraunhofer network “Science, Art and Design” has new speakers

As of October 1, 2022, the Fraunhofer network “Science, Art and Design” has new speakers: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Welf-Guntram Drossel (Fraunhofer IWU) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Krzywinski (Fraunhofer IVI). The former speakers Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bohumil Kasal and Prof. Dr. Matthias Klingner were given a ceremonial farewell.

From left to right: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Krzywinski (Fraunhofer IVI) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Welf-Guntram Drossel (Fraunhofer IWU) were elected as WKD speakers for the next 3 years.

The two new speakers were elected for 3 years by the network's members on September 2, 2022. Prof. Dr. Krzywinski is head of the “DesignLab for Applied Research”, a cooperation of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the TU Dresden. Prof. Dr. Drossel is managing director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU in Chemnitz.

With its work, the Fraunhofer network “Science, Art and Design” contributes towards the promotion of interdisciplinary discourse between applied research, art and design.

The background of the Fraunhofer WKI

Sustainability through the utilization of renewable raw materials has formed the focus at the Fraunhofer WKI for 75 years. The institute, with locations in Braunschweig, Hanover, and Wolfsburg, specializes in process engineering, natural-fiber composites, binders and coatings, wood and emission protection, quality assurance of wood products, material and product testing, recycling procedures and the utilization of organic building materials and wood in construction. Virtually all the procedures and materials resulting from the research activities are applied industrially.
