Webinar 51: Detection of active insect pests in the timber trade
Climate change promotes the emergence of invasive species of wood-destroying insects, such as the Asian long-horned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis, ALB). In Central Europe, many cases of damage to tree stocks have already occurred, necessitating costly and complex rectification. International trading provides a pathway for the unintentional importation of ALB via infested sawn timber or packaging wood. The Fraunhofer WKI is therefore developing and testing a control procedure with which deliveries of imported goods and wood-based packaging can be inspected first visually and then acoustically regarding infestation by insect pests.
The topics of the Webinar are:
- Approaches for the visual detection of ALB infestation
- Acoustic testing procedures for the detection of active larvae
- Initial knowledge and results
The Webinar is aimed at timber importers and merchants, forest-protection authorities and other interested parties.
