New materials made from beet pulp

During German sugar production, large quantities of sugar beet pulp are produced as a by-product. Can composite materials be created from this? This question was examined by the Fraunhofer Institutes WKI and UMSICHT in a joint research project with partners from industry and agriculture. The results of the project will be presented during the webinar.

One focus of the Fraunhofer WKI's work here was the development of materials that can be used as degradable mulch films in agriculture. The investigations showed that the addition of beet pulp could accelerate the degradability of films based on polylactic acid (PLA). For comparison, films made of high-density polyethylene and beet pulp were produced and examined.
