Increasing the long-term durability of bio-hybrid fiber-composite materials through plasma treatment

MEF-Bio-HyFi-LEPLAS – Project start /

Through the unification of natural fibers and conventional carbon fibers in bio-hybrid fiber composites, good damping properties, low material costs and sustainability can be combined with unparalleled mechanical strengths and rigidity. Bio-hybrid fiber composites thereby have a high potential for application in, amongst other things, the automotive and sporting goods sectors. Up until now, however, insufficient long-term durability has hindered the use of bio-hybrid fiber-composite materials under challenging climatic conditions such as high humidity or strong temperature fluctuations.
