Sensory evaluation in indoor areas

As people spend the largest part of their lives indoors, odor nuisances are of particular importance there.

In 2014, the German Committee on Indoor Guide Values published a concept for the “Assessment of odorous substances in indoor air with the aid of odor guideline values”. The concept uses two defined guideline values to estimate the odor nuisance in indoor air on the basis of substance concentrations. The purpose is a differentiation between a low and an unacceptable, considerable odor nuisance.

The employees of the Fraunhofer WKI investigated the odor interactions of two selected substances, both individually and in a mixture, by means of odor evaluations in order to discuss the odor guideline-value concept on this basis. These discussion fundamentals, as well as sampling and evaluation strategies and their influence on odor investigations in accordance with ISO 16000-28, will be presented in our 55th Webinar.
