The compact course imparts the essential theoretical and practical basics for the visual grading of sawn timber and is officially recognized by the accredited bodies in Germany.

The focus course provides basic knowledge on the manufacture and application of wood-based materials. Theory and practical training are closely coordinated. The practical units take place in the laboratories of the Fraunhofer WKI.

The Fleete (canals) of Hamburg's inner city were once full of life. Today, they are mainly unused and lacking in vegetation. In cooperation with the design studio “morgen.” we are developing floating islands which can carry plants and which are made from a robust and lightweight bio-recycling material. Through this project, a new form of green space will be created in the city: valuable biotopes, recreational spaces and meeting places on the water. The project team is organizing a public participatory action at Hamburg's Bleichenfleet, where 16 floating islands will be planted and launched together. Join in and lend a hand!

The festival “The Roofs” accompanies the multisport event “European Championships Munich 2022” with a diverse and free supporting program. In the “Technology Roof powered by Fraunhofer”, research can be experienced live. The Fraunhofer WKI will be demonstrating a stand-up paddleboard made from renewable raw materials. For the core of the lightweight sandwich element, the researchers use balsa wood from disused wind-energy rotor blades.

InnoTrans is the world’s largest trade fair for transport technology. It is sub-divided into the five trade fair segments Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Interiors and Tunnel Construction. The Fraunhofer WKI will present current research results and developments at the Fraunhofer joint booth.

Expert lecture: Heat flux thermography as a non-destructive testing method for industrial use
The inspection technique of heat flux thermography is becoming increasingly important as a non-destructive testing method for quality assurance – in production as well as in-situ during product use. As part of the lecture program, an expert from the Fraunhofer WKI will provide information on current research in the field of heat flux thermography and present application examples for industrial use. In the accompanying exhibition, the Fraunhofer WKI will present a test rig with thermography for testing heatable automotive rear windows.

From 12^th to 14^th October 2022, the Fraunhofer WKI and the European Panel Federation, in co-operation with the International Association for Technical Issues related to Wood, are organizing for the twelfth time the European Wood-Based Panel Symposium.

The K 2022 showcases innovations and trends in the plastics and rubber industry. The ranges on show include the segments machinery and equipment, raw materials and auxiliaries, semi-finished products, technical components and reinforced plastic products as well as services, research and science. The Fraunhofer WKI will present current research results and developments at the Fraunhofer joint booth.
