Hybrid structures incorporated with wood-chip concrete for sustainable construction

For example, lightweight wood chips can be used to replace coarse aggregates of concrete, i.e. as wood-concrete composites (WCC), and bio-flax fiber-reinforced polymer (FFRP) can be used to replace conventional steel as reinforcement of concrete.

In this Webinar, two new hybrid structures incorporating these sustainable materials are introduced used for construction.

Firstly FFRP-tube-encased WCC (termed as FFRP-WCC) focusing on the axial compressive behavior, and secondly adhesively-bonded engineered timber-wood chip concrete composite (termed as TWCC) focusing on the interfacial bond behavior between timber and WCC.
